ADSL Migration Guide
ICUK now offers a free migration path between non-LLU service providers for
all our Home and Business ADSL solutions. For those with an LLU provider a subsidised rate applies to allow you to make the switch to us.
Migrations allow you to move your current ADSL connection away from
an existing provider to ICUK without the risk of days of downtime
or new activation charges. If you were to cease your ADSL connection
with your existing provider, only to reconnect with ICUK, this can
lead to downtime of upto 14 days. Migrations keep the downtime to
a minimum and in most cases this is a couple of minutes.
How the Migration Works
- Firstly you need to request from your existing ISP a Migrations
Authority Code (MAC) Code. A MAC code is used to authenticate
the migration request from your current ISP to ICUK. The MAC
code replaces a number of previous systems and allows easy authorisation
from the losing ISP that you can migrate away from their service.
A MAC code will look similar to BBIP12345678/AB12C
- Once you have a MAC code go to our website and place an order online
supplying us with the name of your previous ISP and MAC Code. You
can pick which package and speed you want from us. THIS DOES NOT
NEED TO BE THE SAME AS YOU HAVE WITH YOUR CURRENT ISP.
- Once the order
has received we will process this for you. Customers will receive
a welcome email and access to a control panel allowing them to
track the progress of the migration. This can take between 3 and 8 days.
You will receive your new login details prior to the migration,
and until the date of migration your existing ISPs login details
will continue to operate. There should be no downtime associated
with migrating, and if there is it is normally kept to a matter
of minutes.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
- Unless you have a MAC code from your ISP we will be unable to
proceed with the migration. New Ofcom rules state that an ISP must
issue you a MAC within 5 days and must not charge for this to be issued.
- If you decide to migrate away from ICUK within the first three
months of migrating to us, a BT migration fee of £11.00+VAT will be billed to your account directly. This only applies
to migrations and not new activation lines, and only if you decide
to leave within 3 months of joining us.
- The ADSL migration process does depend on the co-operation of
your existing ISP. In the event that a migration cannot take place,
you will need to arrange for your existing ISP to cease (cancel)
your ADSL service so that we can arrange for a new connection to
be configured on your line. This will require you to pay an activation
fee and isn't included in our free migration offer. This is a very
unlikely event.
- Although a successful migration should result in much less downtime
than a 'cease and re-provide', unfortunately we cannot provide
any guarantees as to how much downtime will be incurred. With 95%
of migrations the downtime is limited to a matter of minutes and
simply requires you to enter a new username and password into your
router / modem. ICUK will supply you with all the details you need
on the day of signing up to our service.
- We are unable to liaise between you and your existing ISP should
a MAC code not be issued.
- Customers on an LLU provided connection are subject to a £30+VAT
migration BT fee (paid via ICUK) to migrate from LLU to BT IPStream products.
You can check if you are on an LLU product via our availability checker. The message field will clearly state whether you are on a LLU connection.
- ICUK does not charge to issue our own
MAC codes - full details of our own MAC code policy can be read
HERE.
